When Army Officer and father of two Chris MacGregor returned from Iraq in 2007, he penned a poem called My Daddy’s Going Away. The driving force behind the poem was to help his children, and ultimately children of other Service personnel, to understand and come to terms with long periods of separation from their fathers. However, not content with publishing a poem, Chris went on to produce a charming and educational picture book that is endorsed by HRH The Prince of Wales.  The book promotes both Combat Stress and The Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health.  With reference to the Emotional Cycle of Deployment, the poem is designed to support families through the stresses of temporary paternal separation. There’s even more support available on the fantastic information-packed website, as well as loads of ideas for fun things to do while Dad’s away. My Daddy’s Going Away…

By Christopher MacGregor. ISBN: 978-0-9564651-0-8

When Army major and father of two Chris MacGregor returned from Iraq in 2007, he penned a poem called My Daddy’s Going Away. The driving force behind the poem was to help his children prepare for his next deployment.  Not content with publishing a poem, however, Chris went on to produce a charming and educational picture book to help the children of all families.  Fathers from all walks of life have to go away to work for periods of time and all mums know that this has an effect at home.  It is now accepted that dads operate better, and children are less disturbed, if they understand why the separation has to occur, have formed strong bonds and developed coping strategies. The verses of the poem link to the Emotional Cycle of Deployment and through charming illustrations My Daddy’s Going Away… supports all families through the stresses of temporary paternal separation. The book is endorsed by HRH The Prince of Wales and promotes both Combat Stress and The Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health.  To order, for support and loads of ideas for fun things to do prior to, during and after a separation, visit the fantastic information-packed web-site: www.mydaddysgoingaway.com
